After seeing my psychiatrist last week, I was tasked with the job of making a list of everything that makes me happy. If you have depression or suffer with bipolar then you will know that when you are down, you are extremely down. Nothing makes you slightly happy except for a few things, here are mine.
The Greatest Showman
Why a film? The Greatest Showman I find has so many good quotes and one of my favourites “comfort is the enemy of progress”. Lately, whenever I’ve struggled to make a difficult decision that may change something in my life I remind myself of that quote. I also LOVE the music; the words are so thought out and the meaning behind them is just amazing.
Do I even need to explain this one? All I ever want when I’m sad is my bed. When I’m sitting in work at my desk and on the down of bipolar I will be craving my bed. I find that it is my safe a place, I genuinely feel all comforts of happy and homey.
My family and Friends
This is the most important one for me. I have learnt that no matter what situation I’m in I will always have family members and true friends. Going through the early undiagnosed stages of bipolar can be very confusing but knowing you have people who genuinely look out for you and care for your wellbeing make me so happy.
Anyone who knows me knows that I always carry a disposable camera or my Instax camera wherever I go. This is because capturing a pure moment is the greatest representation of life and happiness. I keep every photo I take and put them into photo albums to look in when I’m sad, this automatically takes the sadness away and brings rays of sunshine into my day.
I’m putting the Open University in my list of things that make me happy because whenever I feel slightly worthless I remind myself that I’m studying part time whilst working full time and still managing to average a 2:1. To me, this makes me a total happy badass!
My Cat and Dog
Although I no longer live with my cat and dog (they are at my dad’s house) they still make me extremely happy. I think regardless of age, having something fluffy running towards you when you enter the room makes you happy. Having a cuddle with a pet that just wants your attention… mate it’s just making me happy thinking about it!
Ben, Ji, Vera, and Shirley – all plants that I have in my room that I look after and love to death. Keeping a plant alive makes me happy because it simply reminds me to stay alive.
My favourite Bloggers
A lot of you guys make me extremely happy. Your comments and love for a complete stranger lift me up when I’m feeling, well, shitty. So, because of that thank you! I happy my blog gives you a little bit of happiness, even if it is just whilst you’re reading my pointless and something odd words.
A silly one I know but the weather really does have an effect on me. It can keep me in a sad episode or it can help me get out of one. The sun is just one of the things that I can’t help but smile at and feel slightly happier at.
I can’t even start to describe my love for pizza. The happiness it brings me, the mozzarella, the tomato, the crusty bread and everything together…. UH! I just want some now, nuff said!
In all honesty this list was a lot easier to write than I originally thought it would be. I guess there’s a lot of things that make me happy that I didn’t originally think of off the top of my head. Due to this, I’m challenging any reader of this blog post to write your own list, it doesn’t have to be 10 but it does have to be things that make you happy.
