I love reading self-help books, but it can be hard to find time to read if you have a busy schedule. Over the past two years, I’ve discovered several personal development podcasts that feed my appetite for tips and tricks to improve my daily life. Podcast are such a great on-the-go source of entertainment. I love listening to them at the gym, on the bus, or even while I cook. I find that I learn so many new things while listening to podcasts, and they often trigger self-reflection and change, while remaining fun. Here are five podcasts that inspire me and motivate me on a daily basis:
Hosted by Gretchen Rubin (the best-selling author of The Happiness Project and Better Than Before) and her sister Elizabeth Craft, Happier is all about happiness and gives you practical tips and concrete examples to improve your life. This gem of a podcast took me out of a bad place and it is one I go back to time and time again whenever I need a little boost of positivity. Gretchen and Elizabeth are charming hosts and their sisterly relation is endearing. It is a pleasure to follow along with their journey to happiness and there is so much useful knowledge you can pick up for yourself on the way. Happier is a true ray of sunshine and I strongly encourage you to give it a go if you feel a little blue or unmotivated.

Happier in Hollywood
Happier in Hollywood is the sister podcast of Happier. Elizabeth Craft and her writing partner and colleague Sarah Fain discuss life and work in Hollywood. Even if you have no interest in the film industry, their conversations about their work life and the advice they provide can be useful to anyone. If you’re curious about topics like collaboration, hiring people, landing your dream job, being fired, office etiquette or dress codes, Liz and Sarah have many inspiring anecdotes to share with their listeners. They also discuss health-related topics, such as food, exercise and living with a disease, as well as mental health. They regularly interview celebrity guests and these talks are full of wisdom (I’m especially fond their interviews with actresses Felicia Day and Jenna Fischer).

-Episode 13: Make your vice a virtue: An interview with actress-writer-producer Felicia Day
-Episode 27: Jenna Fischer talks party crashing, Pottery Barn tears, and patience
By the Book
Deliciously funny, By the Book is a podcast that is also instructive since it dissects famous self-help books and delivers the best advice contained in each. In each episode, hilarious hosts Jolenta Greenberg and Kristen Meinzer live by a self-help book for two weeks and document their experience. This podcast is great if you’re into self-improvement, but you don’t have time to read. The hosts provide you with a list of all the practical things that the book in question recommends you to do. You then get a feedback from Kristen and Jolenta, so that you know what is most likely to work. A must-listen if you’re in the mood for a good laugh, but also want useful tips.
