Here she is, our July Blogger of the Month: Ruth from Ruth in Revolt! Ruth has been nominated by different people on different social media platforms. Let’s get to know her a bit better!
1. When did you start blogging?
I started blogging at the end of April 2018.
2. Why did you start your blog?
I had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety but getting the help I needed really put me in a better place. So, I wanted to share that message. I wanted to let people know that, hard as it is, reaching out for help is worth it and can make a huge difference to your life.
3. What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
The community is full of such wonderful people who I know I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet if it wasn’t for blogging!
4. What do you wish someone told you before you started blogging?
How amazing and varied the community actually is. I was terrified of trying to join in because I was scared I’d be rejected. I assumed there were only a few types of blogs, like makeup or travel, and I didn’t know if I’d find my place. Then I discovered there are so many different people using their blogs for different things and there was plenty of space for me, too! It’s such a welcoming community with such incredible people – it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.
5. Is there any blogger that you look up to or that inspires you? If so, who is that awesome person?
There are so many, if I’m honest. I have to pick Amie from The Curvaceous Vegan, though, because she was one of the first bloggers I came across and immediately, I saw her as a great example of how a blogger should be. I loved her content and her attitude. I think she certainly started me off on the right path, and I continue to look up to her.
6. What’s your favorite post on your blog?
Approaching 30 because it was very therapeutic to write. It was a good reminder to myself to enjoy where my life is right now, rather than getting caught up in where I think it should be. Plus, I found it resonated with a lot of readers, which was comforting.
7. What do you see as your biggest accomplishment in blogging?
So far, my biggest accomplishment was being featured on A Lust for Life, which is a mental health website. I wrote an extended version of my first ever blog post for them, but I wasn’t confident I’d hear back, much less be on their site. I got really good feedback for it and it definitely gave me a boost.
8. What’s your dream scenario for your blog?
I’d love to help as many people as possible, first and foremost. I’d like them to come to my blog and leave it a little bit better than when they arrived. Either because they’ve realized they’re not alone, they’ve stumbled on some blogging advice which they really needed, or they’ve found inspiration to write themselves. Other than that, I would like to earn money from blogging, too, as it’s the first time in my life I’ve felt so enthusiastic and determined to make something work.
9. Any tips for us other bloggers?
Just be yourself. This is normally a piece of advice I hate, but I think it’s important in the blogging world. You can bring something to the community which nobody else does, and that’s you – your thoughts, your feelings and your opinions. It’s so easy to get caught up and think you should be doing what everybody else does but it won’t feel good for you. To enjoy blogging, you need to find a way to do what makes you happy.
