Say hi to our very first blogger of the month: the beautiful Jess Cantoni from jesseatsandtravels.com. She was nominated not once, but twice for this feature. So, without further ado, let’s get to know Jess!
When did you start blogging?
I actually first started blogging around 2012. It wasn’t anything serious, mainly me just sharing meals I’d cooked etc. Let’s just the photography was pretty poor!! It’s amazing looking back, seeing how much I’ve learnt since then!
Why did you start your blog?
The reason for starting my current, main blog (Jess Eats and Travels) was to separate my passion for food and travel from my now more lifestyle blog. I wanted to move to WordPress but thought creating a new blog from scratch would be easier, and I’d never get rid of my lifestyle blog. It’s my baby and I’ve had it for quite a long time. With a blogging career in mind, I needed something separate that would allow me to brand my business and purely focus on the food/travel niche.
What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
The first thing that springs to mind is freedom of creativity. Your blog is your own and only you decide what does and doesn’t get published on it. I love the feeling of complete ownership. I love being my own boss!
What do you wish someone told you before you started blogging?
I wish someone had explained all the small but important things you learn along the way, such as how to check your DA and even what DA is! Oh and maybe how good photography and writing really does make a lot of difference to how your blog is perceived. I wish I’d taken more care with this with my first blogs.
Is there any blogger that you look up to or that inspires you? If so, who is that awesome person?
You inspire me Maud, always!! But apart from you, there are some foodie bloggers who are awesome such as Eb from Easy Peasie Foodie. She’s lovely, helpful and so inspirational!
What’s your favorite post on your blog?
Ooh, well I really like my Afghan-Inspired Vegan Kidney Bean Slow-Cooker Casserole (a bit of a mouthful, I know!) It was the first post in my A-Z cooking challenge and also one of the first times I was proud of a photo I’d taken.
What do you see as your biggest accomplishment in blogging?
I’d say it’s been growing my food blog since January and discovering that working hard really does help you grow quicker than you might imagine. I’m amazed at the number of views I get monthly but then I remember it’s down to hard work!
What’s your dream scenario for your blog?
I’d just like to be able to create a decent monthly living from it. The goal is in sight and I’m working hard to get there! I also would like to create a loyal community of followers who I can share and chat about cool things with.
Any tips for us other bloggers?
Be consistent! I know everyone says it but it’s true. Oh, and do focus on growing your social media followers. It’s sad but true that it’s what most brands look for. It should be more about engagement but most of the time it’s not. Also, try and focus on brushing up your photography because a pretty picture can make a lot of difference! And have lots of fun in the process!
